Use of BOMs in S&OP demand planning

I have a question regarding demand planning in S&OP...

Is it possible to use Bills Of Material (BOMs) to derive dependent demand quantities from independent demand quantities?

I'm thinking here of the similar concept in APO DP, where DP PPMs/PDSs can be used as DP BOMs to caculate dependent demand key figures (semantic 4nn) from independent demand key figures (semantic 5nn).
