Align PPDS Planned order & SNP Planned Order dates

Dear Experts,

We are in the process of running PPDS after our SNP run after every 15 days. SNP Planned Orders are first converted into planed orders using conversion job and the PPDS jobs is run.

The PPDS job comprises of 5 steps:

  1. Reschedule de-allocated operations (Resources given as input)
  2. Optimization(Resources given as input)
  3. Firm Objects (Resources given as input)
  4. Rescheduling: Bottom Up (Resources given as input)
  5. Un-firm Objects (Resources given as input)

We have observed that PPDS planned order dates differ vastly from SNP Planned order dates. An example for this case would be that if SNP has proposed orders for a particular product in the first 7 days then the same orders are distributed over duration of 15 days by PPDS. This affects our priority production plan for the first 15 days i.e. orders to be manufactured in the first 7 days on priority are prioritized over 15 days now.

Also we have kept PPDS optimization horizon as 40 days since its helps us plan our Raw Material procurement properly since some RM’s have a procurement lead time of more than 30 days (imported RM’s)

I have a few questions that I need clarification on:

  1. Are we using proper 5 steps in PPDS? If not please mention which other heuristics can we explore.
  2. Can we use products instead of resources as inputs to PPDS? If yes please advice which heuristics would help us.
  3. Can we somehow align PPDS dates with SNP dates i.e. PPDS Planned orders dates very close to SNP Planned orders dates without affecting current process followed.

With Regards,

Harsh
